NARAYANGANJ, Dec 12: A woman was murdered by a group of abductors while she was trying to save her granddaughter for being abducted in Araihazar Upazila of the district.
The incident took place Sendi area under Haijadi Union of the upazila on Wednesday night.
Deceased Shahida Begum was a resident of the area.
The deceased's daughter Sharmin Akhter said that Meem, daughter of Rawshan Ara of Sendi Village, and Aman, son of Sayed Ali of Dasirdia Village, got introduced with each other on facebook. Later on, Meem cut off their communication over a trivial matter. Following this, Aman along with some people including terrorist Delwar entered the house on Wednesday night and tried to abduct Meem forcefully. As Meem's maternal granddaughter Shahida Begum protested at that time, the abductors beat up her mercilessly, leaving her critically injured.
Later on, Shahida Begum succumbed to her injuries at Araihazar Upazila Health Complex on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge of Araihazar Police Station Enayet Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that the investigations are going on and legal action would be taken in this regard.
