GAZIPUR, Dec 12: A young man was hacked to death by miscreants near a police outpost in Kaliakair Upazila of the district on Thursday.
The incident took place in Mouchak area at around 5 am.
The deceased was identified as Tajbir Hossain Shihan, 26, son of Tanvir Hossain Nannu Mia, a resident of Mouchak Jamtala area in the upazila.
Police and local sources said that Shihan worked at a call centre in Uttara of Dhaka. At dawn on Thursday, he left his house and was heading towards Mouchak Bus Stand. At that time, five youths carrying sharp weapons chased him on Mazar Road.
At one stage, they came in front of Hanif Spinning Mills on the west side of Mouchak Police Outpost and caught him. Later on, the miscreants hacked Shihan with sharp weapons and leaving him dead on the spot before fleeing the scene.
Officer-in-Charge of Kaliakoir Police Station Riyad Mahmud confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
