The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed six separate cases against former health minister Zahid Malek, former state minister for ICT Zunayed Ahmed Palak, former state minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam and their family members.
ACC Director General Md Akhter Hossain stated it to reporters at a briefing on Thursday (December 12) afternoon.
He said the cases were filed against those three minister and state ministers, and their family members on charges of acquiring huge amount of illegal wealth.
Zahid Malek
ACC DG Md Akhter Hossain said during investigation, the anti-graft watchdog found that former health minister Zahid Malek acquired wealth worth Tk 61.56 crore and his son Rahat Malek acquired wealth worth Tk 11.84 crore beyond their known sources of income. The cases were filed against them following the approval of the commission on Thursday.
Apart from son Rahat Malek, Zahid Malek's wife Shabana Malek, daughter-in-law Sakiba Malek, daughters Sadia Malek and Synthia Akmal were made accused in the first case.
In the name of wife Shabana Malek, the ACC found illegal wealth worth Tk 3 crore 11 lakh 59 thousand, in the name of daughter-in-law Sakiba Malek the ACC found illegal wealth worth Tk 9 crore 28 lakh 545, in the name of daughter Sadia Malek wealth worth Tk 1 crore 86 lakh 98 thousand, and in the name of Synthia Akmal wealth worth Tk 2 crore 37 lakh 25 thousand 296.
Zunayed Ahmed PalakThe ACC detects illegal wealth worth Tk 8 crore 73 lakh 47 thousand against former state minister for ICT Zunayed Ahmed Palak.
Besides, he made unusual transactions worth Tk 32 crore 4 lakh and 95 thousand through 25 bank accounts. On the other hand, Tk 9 crore 58 lakh 93 thousand unusual transactions were detected in the name of his wife Arifa Jesmine. Tk 22.34 crore were deposited in her name to 31 bank accounts and Tk 17.56 crore were withdrawn from those accounts.
Mirza AzamThe ACC has detected transactions of Tk 39.76 crore in the name of former state minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam and his business establishments, while Tk 3.99 crore in the name of his daughetr Afia Azam Popy.
On the other hand, there are a number of flats in the name of his wife Dewan Aleya. In the name of Mirza Azam, the ACC found that Tk 725.70 crore were transacted in his 60 bank accounts until October 2024.
