BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has termed the remark of Information Adviser Nahid Islam that "political parties are trying to portray the interim government as a failure" as 'anti-political."
"In fact, I don't know why he has made such a remark. His remark is against the politics. We don't expect that they would make such kind of remark, because political parties have always extended support to this interim government.
"There is a reason behind this support, which is restoration of democracy in the country, and we have been struggling for this over the last 15 years. I don't know why he did make such a remark," he said while replying to a question of a reporter on his arrival at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Thursday afternoon following his one and a half weeks long visit to the United Kingdom.
When his attention was drawn to the criticism that the BNP was giving more priority to election than reforms, Mirza Fakhrul rejected it outright.
"Such a perception is absolutely wrong. We called for reforms two years ago, and made 31-point proposal. Before it, we presented the Vision 2023. We're still calling for holding the election after minimum reforms, because it will be very challenging to resolve the problems created in Bangladesh without an elected government," he said.
Tarique Rahman asks everyone to be patient:
When asked what message he had brought from acting chairman Tarique Rahman in London, Mirza Fakhrul said Tarique Rahman has urged party members to remain patient and focus on preparing for the next election.
"The acting chairman has asked everyone to exercise patience. A significant victory has been achieved by the people. To make this victory meaningful, we must all work with patience and dedication. The election is the first step in democracy, and we need to be fully prepared for it," Fakhrul said.
As reporters asked him when the acting chairman of the party may return to the country, Fakhrul said that there are many false cases against him.
"Tarique Rahman will return to the country once his legal issues are solved," he said.
The BNP Secretary General went to London with his wife Rahat Ara Begum on November 30. His flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:45pm today.
While staying in London, he met with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and also participated in several party programmes. His wife Rahat Ara Begum underwent a health check-up and took advice of the physicians concerned.
