Five more die of dengue, 344 hospitalised

Five more people died from dengue and 344 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever in 24 hours till Thursday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh now rose to 541 and 97,947 dengue cases have been reported since January 1.

Among the recent deaths, two were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), one each in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Chattogram Division, Rangpur Division (outside the city corporations).

Among the new patients, 69 were admitted to the hospitals under DNCC and 70 were in DSCC.
Besides, some 1,840 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 1,705 people, making it the deadliest year on record.
