Six people were killed and four others injured in separate road accidents in three districts - Naogaon, Kurigram and Kishoreganj, on Tuesday.
MANDA, NAOGAON: Three people were killed after being hit by a truck in Manda Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred in Bankapur area on the Deluabad-Choubari Haat regional road at around 4:30 pm.
The deceasead were identified as Shakil Hossain, son of Mazed Ali of Fajilpur village in Mohadevpur Upazila; and Zahidul Islam, son of late Abdul Latif of Kalushahar Village, and Noor Alam of Satihat Village in Manda Upazila.
According to police and local sources, Shakil Hossain, a painter by profession, along with two others was returning home riding on a motorcycle after finishing work in the afternoon. On the way, their motorcycle collided head-on with a truck in Bankapur area. Shakil was thrown off the motorcycle and run over by the truck, which left him dead on the spot. His two companions, who were seriously injured, were rescued by locals, but succumbed to their injuries on the way to a hospital.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manda Police Station (PS) Monsur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that the truck involved in the accident has been detained and legal action will be taken in this regard.
RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM: A motorcyclist was killed and another injured after being hit by a pickup van in Rajarhat Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Rabindranath Roy, 35, son of late Tulu Ram, a resident of Belgachha Village under Sadar Upazila in the district.
The injured person is Antar Roy, 21, brother-in-law of the deceased.
Local sources said that Rabindranath along with his brother-in-law was heading towards Rangpur riding on a motorcycle. On the way, a pickup van hit the motorcycle at Mandal Bazar on the Rajarhat-Teesta road at around 4:30 pm, which left the duo critically injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and rushed them to Rajarhat Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Rabindranath dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Rajarhat PS OC Rezaul Karim confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed in this connection.
KISHOREGANJ: Two people were killed and three others injured in a road accident in Kuliarchar Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The accident took place in Dariakandi area on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab regional highway under the upazila.
Of the deceased, one was identified as Helal Bhuiyan, 50, of Ramdi Village.
Police and local sources said that a Bhairab-bound microbus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction near Nahar Filling Station at around 7 am, leaving two people including the auto-rickshaw driver dead on the spot three other passengers injured.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to a hospital morgue for autopsies.
The injured persons were rescued and admitted to Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur Upazila.
Bhairab Highway PS OC Md Shaju Mia confirmed the incident.
