Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Vice-Chairman Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, also a five-time elected parliament member from Cumilla, has said that major reform of this interim government should be arranging a free, fair and acceptable election as soon as possible.
"The interim government's reforms in other sectors would be reformed again during the democratic government's tenure in future. There are reforms above the reforms. In that case, major reform of this interim government should be arranging a free, fair and acceptable election as soon as possible," he said while addressing a virtual view-exchange meeting on Tuesday with local print and electronic media correspondents in Muradnagar Upazila of Cumilla.
Kaikobad said, "Due to bloody sacrifice of the students and mass people during the July-August Uprising, the nation has got relieved from the torture of dictator Sheikh Hasina. Those of the protestors, who are still alive, could be honoured and given various facilities. But, if we want to evaluate the sacrifice of the martyrs, this government must have to arrange a free, fair and neutral election. It would be appreciated in the country's history."
"I want that the government ensures a neutral election, so that all candidates can campaign at a time smoothly. Everyone will campaign for votes for their symbols. There will be no disturbance. No one would try to seal a ballot illegally. No one will try to rig votes in midnight darkness," he added.
The former minister said that the media claim that they did not have freedom of writing anything. They had to face difficulties from the government for neutral reports. They were tortured. Many journalists were killed brutally. "You will do journalism in a free and fair manner if our party BNP comes to power. You are free after August 5."
Muradnagar Upazila BNP Convener Mohiuddin Anjan presided over the meeting while journalist M K I Jabed moderated. Among others, Upazila BNP Joint Convener Kamal Uddin Bhuiyan, Abdul Aziz Molla, Nazrul islam, Syed Amzad Ali Tosu, Jubadal Joint Convener Masud Rana, Swechchasebak Dal Convener Nasir Uddin Ahmed, and Chhatra Dal Convener Khairul Ahsan also spoke.
