Severe cold cripples normal life in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR, Dec 11: The face of the sun has not been seen in the district for the past three days. It is covered in thick fog. People's life of the district has been jeopardised with severe cold.

On Wednesday till noon, vehicles were seen moving slowly with headlights on. People do not go out of the house unless urgent.
The temperature suddenly dropped to 10.1 degree Celsius on Saturday, December 7. After that again on December 8, the temperature rises to 13.5 degree Celsius. But on Monday, December 9, even though the temperature did not drop much, Dinajpur was covered with a thick layer of heat at 13.2 degrees Celsius. 
Winter is beginning to be felt severely. Since then, the face of the sun has not been seen until Wednesday. Mist is falling like drizzle since evening. About 13.5 degree Celsius was recorded on Tuesday, December 10 and 13 degree Celsius on Wednesday. Northerly frosty wind started blowing after 12 noon. The fog has also started to increase.

Mana Islam of Bahadur Bazar area of the city said that the sun has not been seen for the last three days. The wind started blowing again from noon. It is very cold today. 

Jaban Ali, a resident of Block No. 7 in the suburban area, said that winter has come suddenly in Dinajpur. Although the temperature has not dropped much, the winter has taken its toll in severity. This has increased the sufferings of poor people.

This time, no social workers or rich people have distributed winter clothes. As a result, the suffering of the scattered people has increased.

Tofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dinajpur Regional Meteorological Office, said that the temperature of Dinajpur was recorded at 13 degree Celsius on Wednesday. At that time the air humidity was 97 per cent. Wind speed was 1 km per hour.

Engineer Anisur Rahman, relief officer of Dinajpur District, said, "We asked for an allocation of Tk 50 lakh to buy winter clothes. In that light, we were first allocated 3 thousand blankets from the Ministry of Relief, which we have distributed to UNOs of 13 upazilas. They have started distribution".

Last Tuesday, a new allocation of Tk 3 lakh for each upazila was received in 13 upazilas for a total of Tk 39 lakh for the purchase of winter clothes. They will start distribution and ask for new allocation.
