Dr Momen new ACC Chairman

Home Ministry's Public Security Division Senior Secretary Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen was on Tuesday appointed Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for five years and two commissioners were also appointed.

Retired District Judge Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and retired Brig Gen Hafiz Ahsan Farid have been appointed ACC Commissioners also for five years from the date of joining.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification appointing the trio.

On Monday Dr Momen resigned as Senior Secretary of Public Security Division on contract, citing 'personal' ground.

On October 29, ACC Chairman Moinuddin Abdullah and Commissioners Asia Khatoon and Zahirul Haque resigned, citing personal grounds. 

Since then, there was no chairman and commissioners in the anti-graft body.

Dr Momen will get remunerations and other facilities commensurate to a judge f the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court while the commissioners will get remuneration and facilities commensurate the High Court Division's judge.

The government, on November 10, formed a search committee led by Supreme Court's Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Karim to recommend at least two names eligible to be ACC Chairman.

The search committee submitted the names of eligible persons to President Mohammed Sahabuddin who appointed the new ACC Chairman.

Dr Momen served as Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Gafargaon, Mymensingh, Assistant Private Secretary and Director at Prime Minister's Office  from 2001 to 2006, Deputy Director of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre, Additional District Magistrate and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) in Cox's Bazar, Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka, Director of the Department of Land Records and Survey, Chief Executive Officer of the undivided Dhaka City Corporation, Executive Director of the Dhaka Transport Coordination Board, Chairman of the BRTA and Managing Director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

In 2009, while serving as an Additional Secretary, Dr Momen was sent to forced retirement by the then Awami League government.
After the fall of the Awami League government, Momen was appointed Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division on two years' contract on August 17. 

On October 29, ACC Chairman Moinuddin Abdullah and Commissioners Asia Khatoon and Zahirul Haque resigned, citing personal grounds. 

Since then, there was no ACC Chairman and Commissioners.
