The Justice for Comrade, a platform of a section of retired and sacked members of Bangladesh Armed Forces, alleged that the DGFI and joint-forces forcibly picked up its six members from a restaurant and confined them to a cell at Cantonment Police Station in the capital for 24 hours. The platform demanded an inquiry into the incident and punishment for those involved.
At a press briefing at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital on Tuesday, the platform raised the allegation and demanded an end to its recurrence.
Maj (Retd) AKM Shakil Newaz, the former director (Ops) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, read out a written statement containing the allegation.
He said the members of DGFI and joint-forces held the six sacked personnel, including two officers, of the armed forces from the restaurant at Nikunja-2 in Khilkhet at about 10:00pm on November 9.
They then took them to the police station and confined them (the six) to a cell of the police station for 24 hours without any reason.
He drew attention of the Chief Adviser to the interim government to the illegal act. "How dare they have forcibly picked up the former six personnel? What will happen to the common people when the former armed forces members have been victimised?" He posed a question. Two of the victims also described how they were held and taken to the police station.
They said that they tried to know from the DGFI and joint-forces' members about the reason, but they did not reply properly. They just replied that they acted upon the directive of higher officers.
