A Chattogram court has granted a five-day remand for eight individuals accused of attacking police and causing vandalism on court premises.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Alamgir Hossain issued the order on Tuesday after hearing a petition from police.
The accused, identified as Emon Chakraborty, Sujan Das, Sourav Das, Rafiq, Sumon Das, Rupon Das, Ahmed Hossain, and Sakibul Alam, were brought to the court under heavy police security. Additional personnel were stationed at the court entrance to maintain order.
Riyad Uddin, assistant public prosecutor (APP) of the court, stated that the investigation officer had initially requested a seven-day remand for the accused. After deliberation, the court approved a five-day remand for further investigation.
The case stems from a clash that occurred on November 27 between police and followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote.
Following the incident, law enforcement filed charges against several individuals, leading to the current legal proceedings.
The investigation will proceed under police supervision, with the aim of uncovering the full details of the incident.
