MADARIPUR, Dec 10: District Awami League (AL) General Secretary (GS) Kajal Krishna Dey has been arrested in a murder case.
He was arrested by the police of Sadar Model Police Station (PS) on Monday.
A FIR accused him in the murder case of Towhid Sannamat who was shot dead in front of the Youth Development Office in Madaripur during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
According to the case details, on July 19, a three-way clash took place between Chhatra League (CL), police and anti-discrimination movement activists in front of the Youth Development Office on the Madaripur-Shariatpur road.
Tauhid Sannamat, son of Salahuddin Sannamat of Suchiarbhanga Village at Mostafapur Union in Sadar Upazila, joined the clash.
Tauhid Sannamat was killed in police and CL firing at that time. He was buried in the family graveyard later that night.
Family members of the deceased Sannamat were afraid of talking about the issue when the Sheikh Hasina government was in power.
Later on, after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, the District Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Kamrul Hasan filed a murder case with the Sadar Model PS in this incident.
Sheikh Hasina, former MP from Madaripur-2 constituency Shajahan Khan, another former MP AFM Bahauddin Nasim, District AL President Shahabuddin Ahmed Mollah, GS Kajal Krishna Dey, Municipal Mayor Khalid Hossain Yad and several leaders and activists of the District and Upazila AL were made accused in the murder case.
