Ferry services on the Daulatdia-Paturia route resumed on Tuesday morning (December 10) after being suspended for three hours due to heavy fog.
Operations were halted from 6:15 AM to 9:15 AM to ensure safety.
According to sources, thick fog began enveloping the river late Monday night, intensifying as time progressed. By early morning, the fog completely obscured the navigation lights along the route, reducing visibility and making the path unsafe for ferries. In response, authorities suspended all ferry operations to avoid potential accidents.
The suspension left several vehicles stranded at the ferry terminals, causing significant hardship for passengers and transport operators in the biting cold.
Salahuddin Ahmed, Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Daulatdia terminal, confirmed the suspension, adding, "The navigation lights became invisible due to the dense fog, prompting us to temporarily halt ferry operations. Services resumed safely at 9:15 AM as visibility improved."
Ferry operations have since returned to normal, easing the congestion at the terminals.
