Newlywed bridegroom killed in Patuakhali road crash

A newlywed bridegroom was killed in a road accident at Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali district on Monday.

The accident occurred in the afternoon at Nurainpur bazaar area in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Md. Iqbal Hossain, 25, son of Md Abu Taher from Indrakul village in Suryamani union in the upazila.

Meanwhile, two of Iqbal's friends, Mohammad Shuvo, 22, and Md. Shaon, 22, who were riding with him, sustained injuries. 

However, police have arrested the trolley driver, Saiful Islam, 30, in connection with the incident.  

According to locals, Iqbal had married a young woman from a neighboring village, just two days prior. On the day of the accident, he was on his way to buy sweets for his in-laws, accompanied by his friends when Iqbal's motorcycle collided head-on with an unauthorized Mahendra trolley coming from the opposite direction. All three riders were thrown off the bike.

Iqbal suffered critical head injuries and was rushed to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal, where doctors pronounced him dead. His injured friends are currently undergoing treatment.  

Bauphal Police Station officer-in-charge (investigation) Atikul Islam confirmed the matter, adding that both the Mahendra trolley and the motorcycle have been seized. 

"Legal actions are being taken and the driver of the trolley is in custody," he stated.
