The interim government is likely to issue a contract with Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Director General Dr. Reazul Haque Jasim, who was closed to the ousted Awami League government, as he would start his post retirement leave (PRL) soon after completion of his service age of 59 years, according to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and DLS sources.

The sources also said that Dr. Reazul Haque has also managed to get an elevation in his rank by receiving the grade-1 position, which is similar to the rank of a secretary. Managing the authorities of the ministry including the Fisheries and Livestock Adviser, he ensured getting the promotion,it is allegd.

Sources said that Dr. Reazul Haque held several meetings and rallies under the banner of Bangabandhu Veterinary Parishad against the movement of students and mass people organized by Anti-Discrimination Students Movement before August 5.

Immediately after fall of Awami League government, Dr. Reazul changed his voice and become a man of this government as well as the BNP. To get a contract, he is lobbying with several senior BNP leaders.

As a result, the ministry has taken the initiative to give him a contractual appointment after conclusion of his services age of 59 years.

In this situation, the pro-government officers and employees have expressed their frustration and resentment. They have urged the government not to extend his service by allowing a contract.

There are many allegations against Dr. Reazul Haque including misuse of government fund, irregularities in tender process and recruitment, and allowing a syndicate to import meats from abroad, they added.

According to the DLS officials and employees, the interim government has taken the power through the bloody July Uprising with the commitment of removing the corrupt officials from everywhere. Dr. Reazul termed the activists of the movement as terrorists. How could he continue in the chair now?

When contacted, DLS Director General Dr. Reazul Haque told this correspondent, "I was never close to the ousted government or its policymakers. During the student life, I was involved with Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

"When I was promoted to the rank of DG, some of my opponents used the identity to stop me. Taking permission of my seniors, I had joined the meetings and rallies during the July Movement as there was no option after the directives of the minister. Now, they are using the matters to prevent me," he added.
