Journo Ershad Majumder passes away

Veteran journalist and poet Ershad Mazumder has died at a private hospital in Dhaka aged 84.

He passed away at the United Hospital in the capital's Gulshan at 10:45pm on Sunday, according to his family.

Ershad had been suffering from age-related complications alongside diabetes and heart disease.

He leaves behind his wife and two sons.

Ershad was born at Mazumder House in Feni's Ukilpara. He went to Feni College, Jagannath College, and Dhaka College before graduating from the Dhaka University in 1961.

He worked for the Pakistan Observer, the daily newspapers such as Sangbad, Purbodesh, Banglar Bani, and Janapad.

He also served as chief editor of the Weekly Reporter before retiring from the profession in 1998.

In addition to journalism, Ershad was known for his poetry and literary work. He penned over a dozen poetry and story books and novels.

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, and General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan separately expressed their condolences over the death of Ershad and prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.    —bdnews24.com
