Youth dies after falling into abandoned well at Manda

MANDA, NAOGAON, Dec 9: A young man lost his life after falling into an abandoned well in Manda Upazila of the district on Sunday.

The incident took place in Chakdeulia field near Hatheoir Village under Paranpur Union of the upazila at around 8 am. 
The deceased was identified as Selim Reza, 28, son of Nurul Islam, a resident of the village.
According to local sources, a deep tube-well had recently been re-bored in the field next to Selim's house. After the work was completed, some sand remained unused and was left in the area. While attempting to collect the sand in sacks to take it home, Selim accidentally stepped into the deep pit of the abandoned well.

Upon receiving the news, a rescue team from Niamatpur Fire Service rushed in and recovered his body after four and a half hours of frantic effort.

Niamatpur Fire Service Station In-Charge Sahadat Hossain confirmed that Selim's body was retrieved from a pit approximately 50 feet deep using an excavator. 

The body was then handed over to the Niamatpur Police Station, confirmed investigation officer Babul Chandra, adding that after completing the necessary legal procedures, the body was handed over to his family members.
