The West Indies halted Bangladesh's 11-match ODI winning streak with a commanding five-wicket victory in the first match of the three-game series at Warner Park, St. Kitts on Monday.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Soumya Sarkar and Tanzid Hasan Tamim gave a promising start till Soumya's dismissal on 19. Coming to bat at three Liton Das managed to score two runs only. But stand-in captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz pairing with Tamim Jr stood brilliant 79-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Tamim Jr scored run a ball 60 to pick up his 3rd ODI half century. Afif getting back in the national side after a long time got a mediocre innings of 28 runs.

However, Miraz led from the front anchoring the innings with a composed 74 off 101 deliveries. But later fireworks from Mahmudullah (an unbeaten 50 off 44) and Jaker Ali (48 off 40) helped the visitors to post a handsome total of 294 runs on the board for six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. But their batting effort was questioned by 155 dots, which didn't allow them to surpass the 300-run mark.

Romario Shepherd emerged as the pick of the West Indian bowlers with figures of three for 51, while Alzarri Joseph's disciplined effort yielded two crucial wickets, with Jayden Seales claiming the rest.

Chasing 295, the hosts endured early stumbles as Brandon King (9) and Evin Lewis (16) fell cheaply. The disciplined efforts of Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Nahid Rana reduced West Indies to 94/3 by the 22nd over, with Bangladesh sensing an opportunity to tighten the noose.

A dazzling maiden century by Sherfane Rutherford led the charge, with the explosive batter hammering 113 off just 80 balls.

His knock, adorned with seven fours and eight towering sixes, overshadowed an impressive Bangladesh total of 294.

Rutherford's counterattacking was well supported by skipper Shai Hope's steady 86 off 88, decisively turned the tide. Besides, Justin Greaves contributed unbeaten 41 off 31 as the hosts anchored the ship hoarding 295 runs losing five wickets with 14 balls to spare.

The next match of the series is scheduled to be held today as the hosts are desperate to bounce back taking lessons from the defeat in the series opener.
