A convoy carrying central coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement was reportedly attacked in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila in the early hours on Monday.
The incident occurred early Monday morning, around 2 AM, near the main gate of Sonargaon Resort City on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
Central coordinator Hasnat Abdullah disclosed the incident through a Facebook post, alleging that the convoy was targeted while traveling from Dhaka to Lama in Bandarban. According to his statement, the attackers stole their bags and mobile phones, leaving several people injured. Abdullah urged the government to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
Kazi Wahid Morshed, an inspector of Kanchpur Highway Police outpost, confirmed the attack, stating that the convoy comprised eight individuals in one vehicle. While no severe injuries were reported, the car's windows were shattered. Police suspect the incident might have been the work of robbers but are investigating whether it was an assault or a robbery.
Following the incident, the group split into two, with some returning to Dhaka and others continuing to Bandarban in another vehicle.
Attempts to contact Mohammad Abdul Bari, the officer-in-charge of Sonargaon Police Station, for further comments were unsuccessful.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Zone B) Asif Imam said that the matter is under investigation to determine the exact circumstances and motives behind the attack.
