Tigers retain U-19 Asia Cup title beating India

The Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team successfully defended their ACC Under-19 Asia Cup title trouncing India by 59 runs in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud SajibBhuiyan congratulated the Champion boys.

After winning the toss, India chose to bowl inviting Bangladesh to bat first. The Young Tigers faced early setbacks losing three wickets cheaply asKalam Siddiqui departed for one, ZawadAbrar for 20and captain Azizul Hakim Tamim for 16 runs.

However, RizanHossan (47), Mohammad Shihab James (41) and wicketkeeperFarid Hasan (39) steadied the middle order. Despite a late collapse, Bangladesh posted a decent total of 198 runs before being bowled out in the final over.

YudhajitGuha, Chetan Sharma and Hardik Raj each took two wickets for India, with Kiran Chormale, AyushMhatre and KP Karthikeya each taking one.

In reply, India struggled early losing both the openers cheaply. Mhatre and VaibhavSuryavanshi were dismissed for one and nine respectively. Captain Mohamed Amaan (26), KP Karthikeya (21) and C Andre Siddarth (20) got starts but couldn't capitalize. The collapse deepened as Nikhil Kumar (0), HarvanshPangalia (6) and Kiran Chormale (1) fell quickly. Despite a 24-run cameo from Hardik Raj, India were bowled out for 139 runs in the second ball of the 36th over.

Azizul Hakim took three wickets for just eight runs in 2.2 overs, while Iqbal Hossain Emon claimed as many wickets for 24 runs off 7 overs. Al Fahad took two wickets, with MarufMridha and RizanHossan sharing the rest.

Iqbal Hossain Emon was named Player of the Match for his superb bowling performance and Player of the Tournament for his 13 wickets throughout the competition.

Bangladesh showcased consistency throughout the tournament. They defeated Afghanistan by 45 runs and Nepal by five wickets to secure a spot in the playoffs. Although they suffered a narrow seven-run defeat against Sri Lanka in their final group match, the Boys in Green and Red bounced back emphatically in the semi-finals thrashing Pakistan by seven wickets to seal their place in the final.

The Young Tigers had previously won the ACC Asia Cup in 2023 defeating UAE by 195 runs to claim their first-ever title.
