A thought-provoking seminar titled 'Stardom in Bangladesh Film Industry: Nature, Scope, and Impact' was held at the Bangladesh Film Archive's seminar hall on Sunday.

The seminar featured a research paper presented by Aahsan Uddin Bhuiyan, an awardee of the prestigious research fellowship for 2024-2025, granted by the Bangladesh Film Archive (BFA). Bhuiyan, along with eight other researchers, was selected to explore critical topics impacting the film industry in Bangladesh.

The seminar presided over by Mr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Director General of the Bangladesh Film Archive, opened up significant discussions on the role of film stardom in shaping the industry's trajectory. Bhuiyan's research highlighted a significant gap in the academic field of film stardom and identified the key factors that have contributed to the development of stardom within the Bangladeshi context.

The seminar featured prominent scholars and industry experts including Professor Dr. Zakir Hossain Raju from the Department of Media and Communication at Independent University, Dr. Md. KhorshedAlam, Associate Professor at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka and Ms. ShabnamFerdousi, a renowned filmmaker and media personality, who served as the research supervisor.

These speakers underscored the importance of further research on stardom, a topic that continues to impact the entertainment industry and its stakeholders. They pointed out the crucial role that stars play not only in enhancing the industry's visibility but also in shaping public perceptions and the cultural landscape.

During the seminar, the speakers discussed how film stars in Bangladesh are made, the types of contributions they bring to the industry and the challenges they face. One of the key topics was the future of film stardom in the era of OTT platforms, independent video-sharing services like YouTube, Facebook and TikTok, and their influence on traditional forms of stardom.

Film researchers, journalists, students and fellows participated in an engaging open discussion, exchanging insights and exploring the broader impact of stardom on both the audience and the film industry.
