World Vision Bangladesh empowers youth for innovative disaster risk management

World Vision Bangladesh, a leading international development organization, has been committed to building a sustainable and disaster-resilient future for the country's next generation.

Over the past 18 months, the organization reached over 200,000 people through pre-disaster preparedness initiatives, risk reduction services, and post-disaster relief efforts. 

A key programmer, "Innovative Disaster Risk Reduction Programming for Strengthening Community Resilience in Bangladesh," was implemented in seven unions of Tahirpur Upazila, Sunamganj district. 

This youth-led program engaged the community, local government, and other stakeholders in disaster risk reduction efforts, with active support from World Vision staff.

To promote the integration of youth and children in disaster risk management and strengthen related policies in government level , a workshop was held at the Amari Hotel in Dhaka on Sunday, says a press release. 
 
The workshop focused on strengthening pre-disaster preparedness led by youth, ensuring coordinated response during disasters, and providing essential services like food, clean water, and safe shelter in the aftermath. 

The workshop also highlighted the details and statistics of the "Innovative Youth-Led DRR" program implemented by World Vision Bangladesh.

A panel discussion moderated by Shikha Dey, Urban Project Coordinator of World Vision Bangladesh, featured subject matter experts from various organizations, NGOs and youth representatives from the Youth-Led DRR team of world vision Bangladesh.
 
The chief guest at the event was Rezwanur Rahman, Director General of the Disaster Management Department. "He emphasized the government's multi-level approach to disaster management, involving women, farmer leaders, faith leaders, and teachers. He also committed to including youth in future amendments to the Disaster Management Act."

Special guests at the event included Nitai Chandra Dey Sarkar, Director of the Disaster Management Department, and MD Hamid Khan, Director of Implementation, Monitoring, and Youth Organization of the Youth Development Department.

The event commenced with a welcome speech delivered by Dulon J gomes, Director Humanitarian Emergecny affairs and CCA and was chaired by Chandan Z Gomes, Senior Director of World Vision Bangladesh.
