Road mishaps claim five lives in Bogura, Barishal

Five people were killed and four others injured in separate road accidents in two districts - Bogura and Barishal, on Saturday. 

BOGURA: Three people were killed and four others injured in separate road mishaps in Nandigram and Adamdighi upazilas of the district on Saturday. 

Two people were killed and three others injured in a road accident in Nandigram Upazila at night.
The accident took place in Kuchaikunri area on the Bogura-Natore highway under Nandigram Municipality.

Of the deceased, one was identified as Jitendra Nath Saha, 45, driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and son of Ram Saha of Hantua Alaipur Village in the upazila, while the identity of another could not be known immediately.

Police and local sources said that a CNG-run auto-rickshaw with four passengers on its board was heading towards Ronobagha area from Nandigram at night. On the way, a Bogura-bound unidentified bus from Rajshahi hit the auto-rickshaw in Kuchaikunri area on the Bogura-Natore highway under Nandigram Municipality, which left two people including the auto-rickshaw driver dead on the spot and three passengers including a child seriously injured.

On information, members of Nandigram Fire Service Station rushed to the scene and rescued the injured people. The injured were then taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kundarhat Highway Police Station (PS) Monoruzzaman confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.

On the other hand, another man was killed and another injured in a collision between votvoti (local vehicle) and an auto-rickshaw in Adamdighi Upazila in the evening.

The accident took place in Santahar Purba Dhaka Road area on the Bogura-Naogaon highway under the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Matin, 55, son of Mojibar Rahman, a resident of Shibbati Kandarpara area under Kundagram Union.

Police sources said that Abdul Matin was heading towards Santahar from Adamdighi with a passenger on his auto-rickshaw. On the way, the auto-rickshaw collided with a votvoti in Santahar Purba Dhaka Road area, which left two people seriously injured.
 
Locals then rescued the injured and took to Adamdighi Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH). 

Later on, Abdul Matin succumbed to his injuries at the SZRMCH at night while undergoing treatment.  
Adamdighi PS OC Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the incident.

BARISHAL: Two people were killed in a road accident in Muladi Upazila of the district on Saturday evening.
The accident took place in Kalamkhar Mor area at around 6:30 pm.

The deceased were identified as Humayun Kabir, 35, manager of ASA NGO and son of Abdur Razzak Matubbar of Guabaria area in Hizla Upazila, and Kamal Hossain, 31, son of Md Tajul Master of the same area. 

Muladi PS OC Jahirul Alam said that Humayun Kabir was going to Barishal City riding on a rented motorcycle. On the way, the motorcycle collided with a tomtom (local vehicle) in Kalamkhar Mor area, which left the duo critically injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Muladi Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the duo dead.

However, police seized the tomtom but its driver managed to flee the scene.

Necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added.
