Families demand justice for 24 youths missing on way to Italy

SHARIATPUR, Dec 8: Relatives of 19 youths from Shariatpur and 5 from Madaripur, who went missing on their way to Italy via illegal migration routes, held a human chain on Sunday in front of the Shariatpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) office. The event, held at 11am, was marked by emotional scenes as grieving family members broke down in tears while demanding the arrest and trial of the brokers responsible for the incident.  

The youths have been missing since March 22, when they embarked on their journey to Italy. The missing individuals from Shariatpur's Angaria Union include Jafar Sheikh, Atiqur Rahman, Rashidul, Siraj, Rafiq Morol, Shamim Kazi, Miraj Ojhan, Didar Hossain Akon, Md. Aminul Islam, Md. Faruk Sardar, Al Amin Bhuiyan, Md. Salman Sikder, Sayed Molla, Shahidul Farazi, Siam Hawlader, Nahid Bepari, Al Amin Fakir, Naeem Hossain, and Rimon Molla. 
 
Similarly, those missing from Kalkini Upazila in Madaripur are Sakibul, Md. Parvez, Dipu Sikder, Md. Shahjahan Hawlader, and Saiful Islam.  

According to the families, local brokers- including Rashed Khan, Tunnu Khan, Bablu Khan, Hasina Begum, Rusel Khan, Asif Khan, and Suma Begum, conspired to send the 24 youths to Italy illegally. The brokers reportedly charged each youth between Tk 12 and 18 lakh, promising a safe journey to Europe.  

The families are now demanding swift legal action against the accused brokers, who they hold responsible for the disappearance of their loved ones. 

They called on authorities to intervene urgently to locate the missing youths and prevent further tragedies linked to illegal migration.
