Planning and Education Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud said on Saturday the country will get a political government in the new year.
However, the country's major concern at the moment is economic and income inequality, he said in the first session of the ABCD conference hosted by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) at a hotel in the capital.
He said economic and income inequality have become a major concern.
Quality education is needed to remove inequality, but Bangladesh is far from it, he said.
Bangladesh is longer a least developed country, he said, adding discussions are underway to provide the facilities available in developed countries and many countries responded positively, he said.
World Bank Chief Economist Indermit S Gill said that more attention should be paid to investment and job creation to avoid the middle-income trap.
He urged that special attention should be paid to create entrepreneurs and increase the use of technology to achieve the objective.
For this, the World Bank believes that it is necessary to increase investment in human resource development, he said.
Indermit said that Bangladesh must take initiatives to increase value addition of services and manufactured goods, in addition to being strategic in expanding bilateral and regional trade to attract foreign investment.
The World Bank suggested preparing short, medium and long-term plans to address the challenges of uninterrupted energy supply in the future.
