Dhaka University Research Society (DURS) on Saturday held 'Undergraduate Research Day' for the first time in Bangladesh, marking the 8th anniversary of the organisation.
The event was organised at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) with the theme "Research for Reformation", focusing on the idea of research for social reform.
The celebration included various activities such as cutting a cake, releasing balloons, a research rally, research talks, and a tree plantation programme.
DU Proctor Associate Prof Saifuddin Ahmed spoke at 'Research Talk' at TSC cafeteria as chief guest with DURS President Md Fahim Hasan Mahdi in the chair.
Saifuddin Ahmed highlighted the importance and necessity of research in building a knowledge-based society.
Drawing an analogy with the madrasa education system, the Proctor said, "Just as students in madrasa education follow disciplined study practices, university students must also commit themselves to their studies and research with similar dedication."
DURS Moderator Prof Mohammad Manjurul Karim discouraged students from settling permanently abroad after pursuing higher education. He emphasised the need to convert the concept of 'brain drain' into 'reverse brain drain'.
