Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Ghulam Mohammad Quader (GM Quader) on Saturday said that the interim government should not ban ousted Awami League.

"The interim government should not ban ousted Awami League. If necessary, you can trial those persons of Awami League who committed faults. It should not be fair to punish anyone giving baseless cases. Are all of a political party criminals? If think so, then where is the difference between Sheikh Hasina and you? Sheikh Hasina thought that everyone in the BNP and Jamaat are criminals. You are also doing so," he said while addressing a discussion meeting at his Banani office marking the 'Constitution Protection Day'.

GM Quader, also chair of the meeting, said, "We want that all political parties join the upcoming election. Why you do not allow anyone, who was given registration, to contest the election.

Regarding the call of national unity of the Chief Adviser given recently, the JP Chairman said, "Giving the call of national unity, the chief adviser held a view exchange meeting. The beginning national disunity started through the meeting. Against the 48 registered political parties, only 18 join the meeting."

Mentioning about the elections of 2001 and 2008, the former opposition leader in the Parliament, said that the two elections were appreciated globally. In the election of 2001, BNP and Awami League have got almost similar votes. Getting around 40.97 per cent votes, BNP secured 193 seats while Awami League did worst getting 131 seats less than BNP. Getting around 40.13 per cent votes, it got only 62 seats.

In the elections, getting around 7.25 per cent Jatiya Party secured only 14 seats while getting only 4.28 per cent votes, Jamaat got 17 seats in the election of 2001, GM Quader added.

In the election of 2008, Awami League secured 230 seats getting 48.04 per cent votes while BNP won only 30 seats even after getting 32.05 per cent votes. Jatiya Party won 27 seats getting 7.07 per cent votes. Leaving Awami League and Jatiya Party, no national unity can be created. Rather, mistrust among the people would be created by leaving the parties outside the polls, he added.

In response to a query from media, the JP chairman said, "If any aggression comes, we will prevent. No need to shout about it. Some people tell that not a single inch of land would be spared in case of any aggression. I want to ask them, who told you to spare? We have army and BGB to resist them."

JP Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Co-Chairman ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, and Presidium Member Rezaul Karim Bhuiyan also spoke the occasion.

In the meeting, Jatiya Party (JP-Monju) Vice Chairman Md. Afzal Hossain joined JP giving floral bucket to GM Quader.
