The Light Engineering Fair-2024, held by Jashore municipality on December 4 and 5, spotlighted emergence of the municipality as a dynamic hub for innovation and economic advancement in Bangladesh, driven by transformative potential of its Light Engineering (LE) sector.

Supported by PRABRIDDHI, a Local Economic Development (LED) project funded by the governments of Bangladesh and Switzerland, the two-day long fair brought together industry leaders, government representatives, and academia to showcase cutting-edge achievements, expand market opportunities and foster strategic collaborations, says a press release.
Organized by Bangladesh Engineering Industry Owners Association (BEIOA) in partnership with PRABRIDDHI and Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), the fair serves as a platform to promote Jashore-made products across the sector.

While inaugurating the fair, Azharul Islam, District Commissioner of Jashore, emphasized the critical role of light engineering sector in advancing agriculture and ensuring economic sustainability.

He said, "Initiatives like this fair are instrumental in driving agricultural advancements and fostering economic growth across the country. By showcasing innovation and encouraging collaboration, such events strengthen the foundation of key industries like light engineering.

"Continuous product improvement is not just an objective but a necessity for enhancing competitiveness, supporting local livelihoods, and ensuring sustainable progress for the sector."

A key highlight of the fair was the launch of a production manual for six of Jashore's top-selling light engineering products, a collaborative effort by JUST, BEIOA and PRABRIDDHI.

This manual reflects a commitment to quality, standardization, and competitiveness, offering local manufacturers the tools to meet both national and international market demands.

Markus Ehmann, Team Leader of PRABRIDDHI, commended the collaborative spirit that drives the LE sector. "The Light Engineering Fair is a powerful testament to Jashore's transformation into a hub of innovation and quality.

"By fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and local producers, we are not only strengthening the LE sector but also creating a ripple effect for sustainable economic growth. PRABRIDDHI remains steadfast in supporting initiatives that empower local enterprises to thrive and compete on a global scale," he stated.

The fair underscored the importance of the "Made in Jashore" brand as a symbol of reliability and excellence. BEIOA's Vision 2030 emphasizes advanced technology, branding, and digitalization to position Jashore's light engineering products on the global map.

The Light Engineering Fair 2024 further reaffirmed Jashore's unwavering commitment to workforce development, quality control, and global market integration.

Looking ahead, he said efforts will center on establishing international partnerships, advancing training programs, and incorporating innovative technologies to secure long-term success.
