Urgent actions needed to combat dengue

Dear Sir

The recent rise in dengue cases across Bangladesh is deeply concerning. In the past 24 hours, three more people have died, and 186 new patients have been hospitalised, bringing the total number of hospitalisations this year to 95,070. The death toll now stands at 517.

The Dhaka metropolitan area has reported 109 new hospitalisations, while other divisions such as Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, and Sylhet have also seen an increase in cases. Currently, 2,354 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals, with a large portion of them outside the capital.

This situation calls for immediate action to control the spread of the disease. Strengthening mosquito control efforts, raising public awareness, and ensuring adequate healthcare resources are critical to preventing further loss of life and containing the outbreak. The collective effort of health authorities and the public is essential to combating this growing threat.
