An ill-fated disabled man was murdered reportedly by his nephew over a longstanding land dispute at Betagi upazila in Barguna district on Friday.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at around 5 PM in Sonar Bangla area of Hosnabad union in the upazila.
The victim, Sultan Howlader, a resident of the area and son of late Dadan Mussulli Howlader, had been in an ongoing conflict with his nephew, Wahiduzzaman, over a land dispute for a long time. On the day of the incident, Wahiduzzaman and his uncle had a heated argument when he attacked Sultan with a machete, inflicting severe wounds.
Sultan was rushed to the Betagi Upazila Health Complex by his family members, but his condition worsened, and he was transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal. Despite efforts to save him, Sultan Howlader succumbed to his injuries at around 9 PM that night.
Confirming the incident, Betagi Police Station investigation officer Faruk Hossain said that upon receiving the news, police detained Wahiduzzaman, who had tried to flee the scene and Sultan's body was sent for autopsy.
A case was filed at Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station and legal actions will be taken in this regard, added the police official.
