A total of 104 people have been detained on different charges in separate drives in 13 districts - Moulvibazar, Pirojpur, Dhaka, Patuakhali, Khulna, Chandpur, Laxmipur, Bhola, Jhenidah, Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Bogura, Kushtia and Narayanganj, in recent times.
KULAURA, MOULVIBAZAR: Three people were arrested on different charges in separate drives in Kulaura Upazila of the district recently.
Police arrested a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from in front of Longla Modern Degree College in the upazila on Friday afternoon.
The arrested is SM Zaman, former vice-president of the Kulaura Government College unit of BCL.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kulaura Police Station (PS) Md Golam Afsar said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in the afternoon, and arrested him from in front of Longla Modern Degree College.
The arrested was produced before the court, the OC added.
Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two women along with two children while they were fleeing to India after being granted bail at Lalarchar border in the upazila recently.
The arrested are: Fuli, 35; Sathi, 25; Mst Lamia, 7, and Talha 2.
It was known that on November 28, BGB arrested eight people from the house of human trafficker Waskuruni. Later on, the arrested individuals were produced before the court after filing of a case against them, where four were granted bail.
After receiving bail, the four attempted to flee again through the border. On information, BGB detained them once more and handed them over to Kulaura PS.

PIROJPUR: Police arrested four members of an inter-district motorcycle thieves' gang from Sadar and Nesarabad upazilas of the district on Wednesday.
The arrested are: Bappi alias Sumon Roy, 38, of Uttar Gaokhali Village in Nazirpur Upazila, and Kamrul, 24, of Jilbari Village, and Mehedi Hasan, 38, of Pashchim Binna Village in Nesarabad Upazila of Pirojpur; and Munna Munshi, 24, hails from Abhaynagar Upazila in Jashore District.
Additional Superintend of Police (ASP) Md Mukit Hasan said that a motorcycle owned by a journalist, named Habibur Rahman, was stolen from Muslim Para area under Pirojpur Municipality on November 21.
Habibur Rahman lodged a case with Pirojpur Sadar PS in this connection.
Following this, a team of the law enforcers led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Molla Ramiz Jahan Jumma arrested Sumon, Munna and Kamrul. Later on, police arrested Mehedi Hasan and recovered the stolen motorcycle from his house in Nesarabad Upazila.
Legal action would be taken against those arrested, the ASP added.
SAVAR, DHAKA: Police have arrested a local leader of Awami League (AL) from Savar in a case filed over the murder of a student during the anti-discrimination student movement.
The arrested AL leader is Rustam Ali, son of Hatem Aki, a resident of Kalma area in Savar Upazila. He is the general secretary of the Ward No. 7 unit of the AL under Savar Sadar Union.
Police said that Rustum was an accused in a case filed over the death of a student, named Nazmul, who was shot to death during the recent movement. Besides, there are many other allegations against him including land grabbing, extortion, and eve-teasing.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police from Ashulia PS arrested him from Kalma area on Wednesday night, said Ashulia PS OC Abu Bakr.
KALAPARA, PATUAKHALI: Locals caught six members of an inter-district robbers' gang in Kalapara Upazila of the district recently.
The arrested persons are: Sagir Hawlader, 33, Rahat Fakir, 27, Monir Fakir, 27, Shafiq Gazi, 28, Abul Hashem, 40, and Rakibul Khan, 27.
They were apprehended by locals from Gamurtala Village under Nilganj Union in the upazila. Later on, the robbers were handed over to police.
Kalapara PS OC Md Juwel Islam confirmed the matter, adding that the arrested were produced before the court.
KHULNA: Police arrested two alleged smugglers and seized 50 grams of gold in Sachibunia area of the district recently.
The arrested men are: Bablu Dhar, 38, hails from Rajsthali Upazila in Rangamati, and Nayan Manik, 26, from Chattogram District.
Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers searched a passenger-bound bus in Sachibunia area and arrested Bablu along with the gold.
Labonchara PS OC Md Touhiduzzaman confirmed the matter, adding that a case was filed in this connection.
CHANDPUR: Police arrested two robbers along with arms while they were preparing to commit a robbery in Haziganj Upazila of the district recently.
The arrested robbers are: Rashed, 22, and Mehedi Hasan. Both of them are residents of Cumilla District.
It was known that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Enayatpur area under Haziganj Municipality on the Cumilla-Chandpur highway and arrested the duo along with local weapons.
Later on, they were sent to the jail following court order after filing of a case filed with the PS against them.
Haziganj PS OC Md Mohiuddin Faruque confirmed the matter.
LAXMIPUR: Police arrested former vice-president of the district unit BCL Maruf Hossain Sujan for his alleged involvement in the killing of three students in the town on August 4 during the last student movement.
Arrested Sujan is the son of Nur Mohhammad Chowdhury, a resident of Kamankhola area.
Laxmipur Sadar PS OC Md Abdul Monnaf said that Sujan has been accused in the killing of three students and an explosive substances act.
The arrested was sent to the jail following a court order, said the OC.
Three students - Saad Al Afnan, Osman Gani and Sabbir Hossain - were killed in indiscriminate firing reportedly by the cadres of AL, Juba League and BCL near Jhumur Chattar area of the town when several hundred students along with the deceased joined a mammoth rally of the anti-discrimination student movement.
The AL, Juba League and BCL cadres under the leadership of former president of Zila Juba League and recently sacked Sadar Upazila chairman AKM Salauddin Tipu opened indiscriminate firing towards the students.
As a result, Saad Al Afnan, Osman Gani and Sabbir Hossain died on the spot and over 500 people including nearly 300 students were injured in the attack.
Three separate murder cases were later lodged with local police in this connection and police also filed another case against the attackers under explosive substances act.
BHOLA: Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) during separate drives have arrested chief of two criminal gangs along with one firearm, 12 hand grenades and two rounds of cartridge in the district.
The arrested were identified as Md Faruk Daulat and Md Hosne Siam.
Acting on a tip-off, a BCG team conducted two separate drives in South Charpata area under Sadar Upazila of the district and Charsamaiya Union, and arrested the duo, said a press release.
Members of the elite forces also seized firearm, two rounds of cartridge, 12 hand grenades and three local weapons from their possession.
The arrestees along with the firearm and ammunition were handed over to Bhola Sadar Model PS.
Two notorious criminal gangs groups led by Md Faruk Daulat and Md Hosne Siam have been involved in criminal activities including extortion, land grabbing and intimidation, in the aforesaid area for a long time.
JHENIDAH: Members of BGB have detained 47 individuals while allegedly trying to trespass into India through Maheshpur border area in the district recently.
The arrests took place as personnel from Maheshpur BGB Battalion- 58 conducted operations in various areas.
Among those detained, there were 12 women, 19 men, and 16 children.
Commander of the BGB Battalion Colonel Shah Mohammad Azizus Shahid confirmed the detention, saying that the arrests were made in different border areas.
Among them, five individuals from Matila-5, 10 from Khosalpur, six from Polianpur, seven from Baghdanga, 13 from Shyamkur, and six were arrested from Loraighat.
The detainees hail from various districts and several of them had been previously apprehended by the BGB patrol teams during similar attempts, he said.
Colonel Shahid also said that a total of 331 individuals have been detained while attempting illegal border crossings in the Maheshpur region.
The BGB continues its vigilance to curb unauthorised movements along the border, the BGB official added.
KISHOREGANJ: Police have arrested three leaders of banned organization BCL in connection with the vandalism of ISKCON-run Shri Shri Hare Krishna Namhatta Sangha prayer hall at Bhairab in the district.
The arrested individuals are: Hasibul Hasan Pranto, joint general secretary (GS) of Bhairab Municipality Unit of the BCL, his brother Hasibul Hasan Shanto, joint GS of the upazila BCL, and Md Sanjid, deputy education and study circle secretary of the municipality BCL.
It was known that a group of attackers armed with sticks vandalised the prayer hall located on the ground floor of one Aditya Saha's building in Rani Bazar area of Bhairab Municipality.
Following the incident, Pranoy Karmakar, a member of ISKCON Namhatta Sangha, filed a complaint with the local PS against unidentified perpetrators.
In response to the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested the three suspects.
Later on, they were sent to Kishoreganj District Jail following the court order.
Kishoreganj SP Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury said that swift action would be taken to bring those responsible to justice.
"We have visited the site and initiated a thorough investigation. The culprits will be identified and punished in accordance with the law," the SP added.
SYLHET: Members of BGB detained five people while they were entering Bangladesh from India through the Sylhet border recently.
The information was given through a press release issued by the 48th Battalion of Sylhet BGB.
According to the press release, they were arrested near Sylhet border pillar 1279/MP by members of the BGB's Sripur Camp.
Two of the detainees were found carrying both Bangladeshi and Indian ID cards. During interrogation, they confessed to having traveled to India a few days ago for work purposes.
The arrested are: Md Monir Hossain, 26; Md. Sabuj Mia, 28; Md Hekim Ali, 47; Md. Ujjal Hossain, 18; and Md Salek Nur, 39;
The press release mentioned that the detainees are being handed over to the police for further legal action.
BOGURA: Police arrested a district Juba League leader from his residence at Belgium Math of Latifpur Colony in Sadar Upazila of the district recently.
"Engineer Khairul Alam alias Lakhin, an active member of the Juba league district unit, was arrested from his own residence," said Bogura Sadar PS OC SM Mainuddin.
The OC also said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive and arrested Khairul, also a central committee president of Bangladesh Human Rights Association, from his his residence in the area.
He was produced before the court after reviewing cases filed against him, the OC added.
DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: Police arrested one more accused in Philipnagar Union Parishad (UP) chairman Nayeem Uddin Sentu murder case of Daulatpur Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested man is Hridoy Hossain, 25.
It was known that on information, a team of the law enforcers arrested Hridoy on the charge of killing Philipnagar UP chairman Nayeem Uddin Sentu, son of Intadul Sarder, at Kacharipara.
NARAYANGANJ: A total of 27 people were arrested on different charges in separate drives in Sonargaon and Sadar upazilas of the district recently.
Locals caught eight robbers along with firearms while they were trying to commit a robbery in Monarkandi Village under Shamvupura Union of Sonargaon Upazila.
Locals then handed them over to the joint forces.
The arrested are: Md Salman, 19, of Jashore; Md Sabbir Alam, 18, of Kurigram; Md Mehedi Hasan, 20, of Khulna; Md Borhan Uddin, 20, of Jashore; Md Abdullah, 20, of Pirojpur; Md Hasan, 21, and Md Mehedi Hasan, 20, of Bhola Sadar; and Md Tasin Ahmed, 19, of Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat.
It was known that the arrested were trying to commit robbery in Monarkandi Village of the upazila in guise of Bangladesh Army.
Locals then caught the eight along with firearms on suspicion, and later, handed them over to the joint forces.
Sonargaon PS Inspector (Investigation) Rashedul Hasan Khan confirmed the matter.
On the other hand, police arrested 19 people on the charge of gambling in Fatullah area of the district recently.
The arrested people are: Md Kamrul Mandal, 40, Md Motaleb, 28, Md Rafiq, 36, Md Enamul, 38, Md Roman, 40, Md Harun, 38, Md Tanjil, 25, Md Azim Ali, 37, Md Ashraful, 36, Md Raju, 28, Md Arif, 32, Md Mamun, 35, Aminul Islam, 30, Md Tanim, 28, Md Alal, 45, Kabir Hossain, 50, Md Shajahan, 36, Md Ataur, 55, and Shanto, 19.
Police sources said that on information, a team of Detective Branch of Police and District Police conducted a joint drive in Masdair area of Fatullah, and detained 19 people red-handed while they were gambling.
The team also seized playing cards and Tk 19,430 in cash from their possession. After filing of a case with Fatullah Model PS, the arrested was sent to the jail following a court order.
