NARSINGDI, Dec 7: Two people were killed and at least 10 others injured in a factional clash between two groups of Awami League (AL) in Raipura Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The incident took place in Nazarpur Methikanda area under Chanderkandi Union of the upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as union parishad (UP) member Manik Mia, 55, and former UP member from reserved seat Kalpana Begum, 32.
Police and local sources said that a longstanding dispute had been going on in between two groups of Juba League leader Abid Hasan Rubel and Raipura Municipality AL vice-president Harun-or-Rashid over establishing supremacy in the area.
Following this, the two groups were locked into a clash in the area on Saturday morning, which left Manik Mia and Kalpana Begum dead on the spot at least 10 people injured. Both of the deceased were supporters of Abid Hasan's group.
Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station Md Abdul Jabbar confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
