Bangladeshi youth injured in BSF firing in Lalmonirhat

A Bangladeshi youth sustained rubber bullet injuries in a firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Durgapur frontier in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district early Saturday.

The injured was identified as Helaluzzaman alias Helal Uddin, 36, son of Late Shahabuddin of Kutirpar village of Durgapur union of the upazila.

Local union parishad member Abbur Razzak said that Helal often entered Indian territory illegally for work. He stayed there for few months and returned home. Due to the thick fog his work was suspended, and Helal was returning to Bangladesh on Friday night.
The BSF troops of Madankura camp fired rubber bullets at Helal near the pillar number 925/2  of the border area, leaving Helal seriously injured.

Later, they took him to a hospital in Dinhata Sadar in India. According to the local sources, Helal is now under treatment there.

According to the locals, a group of Bangladeshis, including Helal entered Indian territory illegally. The BSF members opened fire on the group while they were trying to bring cattle through border. Meanwhile, other members of the group returned Bangladesh safely with 70 cattle.

Ali Akbar, officer-in-officer of Aditmari police station, said that they heard about the Bangladeshi youth who sustained rubber bullet injuries. The detail information about the work and the intention of the youth could not be known immediately.

Lt Col Shah Mohammad Shakil Alam, commander of the 15th Battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Lalmonirhat said that they have protested the incident and asked the BSF to return the Bangladeshi youth.  

Meanwhile, a Bangladesh national was killing in the firing of Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) at a place between the Sub Pillars Numbers 8 and 9 of the Main Pillar No. 751 at Mominpara in Haribhasa union under Sadar upazila in Panchagarh district on Friday morning.

Following the incident, the BSF handed over the body of Anwar Hossain, 40, to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after a flag meeting between the two sides on Friday afternoon.
