2 UP members killed in AL's factional clash in Narsingdi

Two persons, including an woman, were killed in a factional clash between two groups of Awami League in Narsingdi's Raipura on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Manik Miah, 55, a member of Chanderkandi union parishad and Kalpana Begum, 32, a former member of the same union parishad. Both of them were the supporters of Jubo League leader Abid Hasan Rubel.

Following the death of two people, tense situation is prevailing at Metikanda area of the upazila. Additional number of police personnel have been deployed to control the situation.
Additional number of police, army and RAB personnel have been deployed to control the situation, said superintendent of Narsingdi police Abdul Hannan.

A long-standing dispute had been at loggerheads between two groups--Jubo League leader Abid Hasan Rubel and Telecommunications Minister Raziuddin Ahmed Razu-- over supremacy in the area. Centering UP elections, this conflict intensified.

As sequel to that, both the group, equipped with lethal weapons and guns, attacked eachother at an early hours, leaving former member Manik, a supporter of Abid Hasan, and Kalpona Begum dead on the spot.
