A man was killed in a clash between two groups over a land dispute at Rajnagar upazila in Moulvibazar district on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred at Sonataki village under Munshibazar union in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Mishraf Ali, 46, a resident of the area.
It was learnt that supporters of Nurul Amin went to irrigate a disputed canal in front of Hannan Miah's house. At that time, supporters of Soyad Jweel Ali blocked Nurul Amin's supporters, causing a clash to erupt.
During the clash, the rivals struck Mishraf Ali with a spear, leaving him critically injured.
He was rescued and taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMcH), where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Sah Mubassir, officer-in-charge of Rajnagar Police Station, confirmed the matter.
The situation is now under control, the OC added.
