Four held with heroin in Sherpur

A joint operation by army and police personnel in Sherpur's Nalitabari upazila, led to the arrest of four individuals with five puriya of heroin on Thursday night. 

The arrests took place on Thursday night in the Kalinagar area of the municipal town.  
The arrested individuals-- Farid Alam, 32, of Kalinagar and convener of the Chhatra Dal Nalitabari municipal unit, Habir Uddin, 45, from the same area, Shahidul Islam, 32, from Garkanda, Nazmul Haque, 27, from Khatua Kumri in Sherpur Sadar upazila--- were presented to court on Friday.

According to sources, the joint team conducted the raid based on a tip-off that a group was trading illegal drugs in an abandoned shack in Kalinagar. During the operation, the suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended. Upon searching them, law enforcement found five puriyas of heroin wrapped in white plastic inside a cigarette pack.  

Confirming the incident, Nalitabari Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Sanowar Hossain stated, "A case has been filed under Narcotics Control Act and the arrested individuals were sent to Sherpur Court on Friday afternoon."
