A woman was allegedly killed while offering prayers at her home in Kajoldighi Kaliaganj area of Panchagarh's Boda upazila.
The incident occurred on Thursday night (December 5) at around 10:30 PM.
The victim Orina Begum, 45, was wife of Abul Kalam and a mother of two. Her elder son resides in Dhaka for work, while her younger son is reportedly former president of the banned student organization Chhatra League in Kajoldighi Kaliaganj union. It is believed that he has been in hiding due to political reasons.
According to police and local sources, Orina was performing Isha prayers in her house when unknown assailants entered and repeatedly struck her on the head with a sharp weapon. She collapsed on the floor, bleeding profusely. Her husband, Abul Kalam, returned home later from a nearby market to find the house eerily silent. Upon entering, he discovered his wife lying in a pool of blood. His cries for help alerted the neighbors who quickly gathered at the scene.
Boda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azim Uddin said that upon receiving the information, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital for an autopsy on Friday morning (December 6).
"We visited the crime scene and found multiple injuries on the victim's head caused by a sharp weapon. The body has been sent for autopsy, and preparations are underway to file a case," he said.
