Road mishaps claim 3 lives in three districts

Three people including a woman and a schoolboy were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in three districts - Gopalganj, Rajshahi and Gazipur, in two days.

GOPALGANJ: The driver of a private car was killed in a road accident in Kashiani Upazila of the district on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Palash Molla, 36, son of Siddiqur Rahman Molla, a resident of Dakshin Fukra Village under the upazila.
Kashiani Fire Service Station official Manibar Rahman said that Palash Molla lost control over the steering of his private car and fell into a roadside ditch while entering the highway near Miltan Bazar in the upazila at night, which left him seriously injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and took him to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Palash Molla dead.

However, necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the Fire Service official added.

RAJSHAHI: A woman was killed and another injured in a road accident in Puthia Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place in Tarapur area on the Rajshahi-Natore highway under the upazila at around 8 am. 

The deceased was identified as Majeda Begum, 40, wife of Bacchu Mia, a resident of Halidagachhi Ashrayan Prakalpa in Charghat Upazila of the district. 

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paba Highway Police Station (PS) in Puthia Mozammel Haque Kazi said that Majeda was riding on an auto-van in the morning. At one stage, a bus of 'BRTC' Paribahan hit the auto-van from behind in Tarapur area on the Rajshahi-Natore highway under the upazila at around 8 am, which left her dead on the spot and the auto-van driver injured.

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members following formal procedures.

However, the law enforcers have seized the bus, but its driver managed to flee the scene. 

A case was filed with the PS and necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added. 

SREEPUR, GAZIPUR: A schoolboy was killed and another injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Sreepur Upazila of the district on Wednesday. 

The accident took place in Tengra area on the Tengra-Jaina Bazar regional road under the upazila in the morning. 

The deceased was identified as Sabbir Hossain, 16, son of Md Sohel Mia, a resident of Bekasahara Village in the upazila. He was a student of Nawab Ali Adarsha High School.

According to locals and the deceased's family members, Sabbir and his friend Adil set out on a motorcycle to a nearby area to enjoy fresh date juice. While riding through Tengra, their motorcycle collided with another coming from the opposite direction. Sabbir died on the spot and Adil was injured at that time. 

Adil was rescued and initially taken to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, but later, referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Sreepur PS OC Joynal Abedin Mondal confirmed the incident, adding that legal proceedings are underway in this connection.
