The Gopalganj Regional Office of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) celebrated the traditional 'Nabanna Utsab' at its premises in Ghonapara area on Friday morning.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from the institute's scientific officers, and others staffs. A variety of traditional rice cakes (pitha-puli) were prepared and served during the celebration. Members of the "Construction Supervision" committee from the BRRI Gazipur headquarters, along with agricultural officers, also attended, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Dr. Md. Romel Biswas, Chief and Senior Scientific Officer of the Gopalganj Regional Office, highlighted the significance of Nabanna as a traditional Bengali festival. "This festival is usually held in the Bangla month of Agrahayan, following the harvest of Aman paddy. In Gopalganj, Bagerhat, and Narail, we began harvesting BRRI's demonstration plots in early November under this office's supervision. After completing the tasks of harvesting, threshing, cleaning, and storing, we slightly delayed the Nabanna celebration," he explained.
Dr. Biswas expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee for arranging the event and preparing traditional delicacies, making the celebration a memorable one.
