Police have detained another suspect in a case filed on charges of killing Assistant Public Prosecutor Saiful Islam Alif in Chittagong on November 26.
The man Ripon Das, 27, who worked at a pharmacy in Chawk Bazar area of Chattogram, was detained on Thursday.
Kazi Mohammad Tarek Aziz, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media), said that the name of the Ripon was not initially included in the murder case.
Police identified him after analyzing the video footage which was collected during investigation.
The video footage showed that Ripon was wearing a blue vest, a helmet and was acting aggressively holding a machete.

Based on the footage, Ripon has been identified as a suspect in the Saiful Islam murder case, the official added.
On Wednesday (December 4) night, police arrested a man named Chandan, the prime accused in Advocate Saiful Islam Alif murder case, from Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district.
Earlier, on November 26, a clash broke on the Chattogram court premises over the rejection of bail for Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, who had been arrested in a sedition case. During the clash, Assistant Public Prosecutor Saiful Islam Alif was beaten and hacked to death.
Following the incident, Saiful’s his father Jamal Uddin filed a case with the Kotwali police station, against 31 named and 10 to 15 unidentified people.
A total of five cases, including one for murder, were filed over the incidents. Police filed three of these cases themselves.
ADC Aziz said that police have identified several people using video footage.
