Meherpur CAB protests price hike of essentials

MEHERPUR, Dec 5: The Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB)  here organized a human chain in the district on Monday to protest the abnormal price hike of onions and potatoes caused by profit-driven corrupt traders as well as the illegal open sale of edible oil.  

The human chain was held in front of the local press club and was followed by the submission of a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Sifat Mehnaz. 
The memorandum, addressed to the Director General of the National Consumers Rights Protection Directorate, urged immediate action to safeguard consumer rights concerning the skyrocketing prices of essential items.  

CAB Meherpur District Branch President Rafiqul Alam and General Secretary Majedul Haque Manik addressed the gathering, emphasising the need for stricter measures against unethical trading practices.  

Among the attendees were CAB member and Meherpur Press Club President Fazlul Haque, Joint General Secretary Ben Yamin Mukt, CAB Gangni Upazila Branch General Secretary Mahbub Alam, and CAB members Pradeep and Dilara Jahan. Participants included individuals from various walks of life, reflecting widespread concern over the issue.  

The protest highlighted the urgent need for government intervention to regulate the prices of essential commodities and ensure compliance with existing laws to protect consumer rights.
