Akhtar Ahmed appointed as EC secretary

Former public servant Akhtar Hossain has been appointed as the senior secretary of Election Commission (EC).

Akhtar was appointed for two years on contractual basis, said a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday (December 5).

The notification stated Akhtar has been appointed under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018, on the condition that he must step down from any other professions, businesses or employment with any government, semi-government, or private organisations.

Earlier on Tuesday, the government removed Shafiul Azim from the post of EC secretary and made him OSD (officer on special duty).
