Police have arrested a local Awami League leader from Savar in a case filed over the murder of a student during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The arrested AL leader is Rustam Ali, son of Hatem Aki, a resident of the Kalma area in Savar upazila. He is the general secretary of the 7 No Ward Awami League under Savar union in Savar upazila.
He was arrested from the Kalma area on Wednesday night.
Police said that Rustum was accused in a case filed over the death of a student, Nazmul, who was shot to death during the recent movement. Besides this, there are many other allegations against him, including land grabbing, extortion, and eve-teasing.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police from Ashulia Police Station arrested him from the Kalma area, said Abu Bakr, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station.
