The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division on Wednesday upheld a High Court order that granted ad-interim bail to former superintendent of police Babul Akter in connection with a case filed over the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu in 2016.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed the order after rejecting a petition filed by Mosharraf Hossain, the victim's father, who sought a stay on the HC bail order.
Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir, counsel for Babul Akter, told reporters that there is no legal bar to releasing his client from jail following the chamber judge's order.
Mitu's father later on May 12, 2021 filed a murder case against eight people, making Babul the prime accused in the case, alleging that he is the mastermind behind the murder.
Mitu's father also alleged that Babul killed his wife over an extra-marital affair.
