Bangladesh has bought 25,000 tons of sugar from Pakistan. The shipment will arrive at Chittagong port next month from Karachi port. Earlier, Bangladesh used to buy sugar from India.
According to official sources, after many decades, the Pakistani sugar industry is sending such a large quantity of quality product to Bangladesh.
Last Monday, the price of sugar in the international market reached 530 US dollars per ton. After the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Pakistani sugar industry has signed a contract to export about 600,000 tonnes of sugar this year.
Of this, 70,000 tonnes will be sent from Pakistan to Central Asian countries. Thailand has bought 50,000 tons of sugar from Pakistani sugar industry. According to Majid Malik, an official of Pakistan's sugar traders, Gulf states, Arab countries and African countries have also signed agreements to buy sugar from Pakistan.
Pakistan will earn 400-500 million US dollars from sugar exports. Basically, Pakistan's sugar industry has become a major foreign exchange earning industry for the South Asian country.
This year, more than 80 sugar mills in Pakistan started sugar production from last Monday.
