NATORE, Dec 4: A housewife reportedly committed suicide by burning herself in Singra Upazila of the district on Monday.

The housewife succumbed to her injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) at around 8 pm.

The deceased was identified as Sahida Begum, 55, wife of Mokhlesur Rahman, a resident of Sougram.

Earlier, at around 11 am on Monday, Sahida Begum burnt herself by pouring petrol on her body, which left her critically injured.

Locals then rescued her and took to Singra Upazila Health Complex after hearing her screams.

Later on, Sahida was transferred to the RMCH, where she died at night while undergoing treatment.

Although the source of the fire could not be clear yet, she might have tried to kill herself by the fire, said locals.

Officer-in-Charge of Singra Police Station Md Asmaul Haque said, "No complaint is received in this regard. Legal procedures will be taken after receiving complaint."
