A court in Chapainawabganj sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drugs case filed in 2021.
Chapainawabganj District and Sessions Judge Md Mizanur Rahman handed down the verdict recently in presence of the convict.
The condemned convict is Azad Ali alias Abul Kalam Azad, 63, son of Abdul Tofur Mistiri, a resident of Islampur Boro Indara Mor in the district town.
The court also fined him Tk 5,000, and in default, he has to suffer six more months in jail.
According to the prosecution, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in a drive, arrested Azad along with 1.91 kilograms of heroin from Chowdhurytola area under Moharajpur Union in Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila on March 1, 2021.
Nayeb Subedar Md Abu Taleb of RAB-5 filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station on the same day.
Sub-Inspector Sujon Khan, investigating officer of the case, submitted the charge-sheet to the court accusing two persons on December 15, 2021.
After hearing the witnesses, the court handed down the punishment.
Another accused in the case Kamal Hossain was acquitted as the charges brought against him were not proven.
