Winter is settling firmly over Bangladesh, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures across the country as Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted that both day and night temperatures are expected to decrease further in the coming weeks, signaling the deepening of the season.

In its latest 72-hour forecast issued Tuesday night, BMD predicted nighttime temperatures could drop by 1–2°C, accompanied by slight declines in daytime temperatures. The weather will largely remain dry, with patches of light to moderate fog expected late at night and early in the morning.

A seasonal low-pressure system over the South Bay of Bengal, extending into the northeastern Bay, is shaping the weather, ushering in the distinctive patterns of a Bangladeshi winter.

Mild Days, Chilly Nights: Regional Temperature Trends

December marks the transition to cooler weather, with average daytime highs ranging between 25°C and 27°C across most regions, while nighttime lows hover around 14°C to 17°C.

Cities like Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet experience low humidity levels and abundant sunshine, making the weather conducive to outdoor activities and travel.

Dhaka: The capital experiences daytime highs between 16°C and 26°C, with minimal rainfall and clear skies.

Chattogram: This coastal city enjoys mild conditions, with temperatures varying from 17.5°C to 25°C.

Sylhet: Known for its lush tea gardens and hilly landscape, Sylhet sees cooler nights, with lows dipping to 13°C.
The BMD advises light jackets for cooler mornings and evenings and travelers should stay informed about weather updates, especially during long journeys.

For international visitors, this is an ideal time to explore Bangladesh's scenic destinations. Highlights include:

Cox’s Bazar: The world’s longest sea beach offers mild weather perfect for seaside adventures.

The Sundarbans: The UNESCO World Heritage mangrove forest is a prime spot for eco-tourism and tiger spotting.

Sylhet Tea Gardens: The region’s serene hills and tea estates provide a picturesque retreat.

Winter in Bangladesh is a season of celebration and productivity. Farmers seize the opportunity to cultivate crops like rice and winter vegetables, taking advantage of the favorable climate. Meanwhile, cities and villages come alive with weddings, fairs, and outdoor festivities.

However, the colder nights pose challenges for vulnerable populations, particularly in northern districts where temperatures drop more significantly. Foggy mornings may also affect visibility, especially for travelers and early commuters.

As winter deepens, Bangladesh prepares to embrace the season's charm, blending cultural festivities with the serene beauty of cool, clear days and crisp nights.
