NATORE, Dec 3: The residents of Naldanga Pourashava have urged authorities concerned not to relocate the municipality office building to a different location, citing potential hardship for service recipients.
A human chain was organized on Sunday afternoon in front of the current Pourashava office by Naldanga Bazar Samity and local residents. Hundreds of people, including businessmen and political leaders, participated in the protest to oppose the proposed relocation.
The speakers at the event explained that the previous mayor of Naldanga Pourashava had purchased land in a remote area, about one kilometre from the current office building, to construct a new office. This decision was made without considering the opinions of local residents, they claimed.
The speakers argued that moving the office to a distant location would create significant difficulties for citizens in accessing services and demanded that the office remain at its current central location in Naldanga Bazar.
The Naldanga Pourashava, established in 2003, has operated from its current location at the heart of Naldanga Bazar since its inception.
At the end of the protest, a memorandum was submitted to the Pourashava administrator, requesting that the demand be forwarded to higher authorities for immediate action.
Prominent participants included President of Naldanga Poura-BNP unit MA Hafiz, General Secretary Zakir Hossain, Organizing Secretary Shafiqul Islam Bulbul, President of Naldanga Bazar Owners Association Nasir Uddin, and BNP leader Gias Uddin addressed the gathering.
