Six people have been killed and at least eight others injured in separate road accidents in six districts - Jhenidah, Dinajpur, Laxmipur, Bhola, Kurigram and Rajshahi, in three days.
JHENIDAH: An elderly man was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in Shailkupa Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
The accident took place in MP Mor area on the Shailkupa-Hatfazilpur road under the upazila at around 9:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Jabed Ali Sheikh, 80, son of Zaker Ali Sheikh, a resident of Bhandaripara Village under Nityanandapur Union in the upazila.
It was known that a motorcycle hit Jabed while he was crossing the road in MP Mor area at around 9:30 am, which left him critically injured.
He was then rescued by locals and taken to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shailkupa Police Station (PS) Masum Khan confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed with the PS in this connection.
DINAJPUR: A motorcyclist was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday noon.
The accident took place in Boalmari area on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj Regional highway of the upazila at around 2:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rashid, 40, hailed from Phulbari Upazila.
Quoting locals, Dinajpur Sadar PS OC Md Motiur Rahman said that the accident occurred when the deceased's motorbike collided head-on with a tractor in Boalmari area on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj Regional highway at noon, which left Abdur Rashid dead on the spot and two others critically injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
However, the law enforcers have seized both the vehicles and a case was filed with the PS in this regard, the OC added.
LAXMIPUR: A man was killed and at least six people including two students were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The accident took place in Bhabaniganj Chowrasta area on the Laxmipur-Ramgati regional road under the upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain, 55, a resident of Char Afzal area under Ramgati Upazila in the district.
Police and local sources said that Alamgir was an accused in a case. On Sunday morning, he was heading towards Laxmipur District Judge Court riding on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw loaded with passengers.
When the auto-rickshaw reached Bhabaniganj Chowrasta area on the Laxmipur-Ramgati regional road, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the vehicle, which left at least seven people seriously injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Alamgir dead.
Medical Officer Dr AK Azad said that Alamgir had died before being taken to the hospital.
Of the injured, the conditions of two were stated to be critical, and one, named Hasan Ahmed, was shifted to Dhaka Medical Hospital for better treatment.
Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased and handed it over to the deceased's family members.
Laxmipur Sadar Model PS OC Md Abdul Monnaf confirmed the incident, adding that drives are going on to nab the truck driver.
LALMOHAN, BHOLA: A night watchman was killed when his motorcycle collided with a truck in Lalmohan Upazila of the district early Sunday.
The accident took place in Rasulbagh area on the Bhola-Char Fasson regional highway under Lalmohan Municipality at around 3 am.
The deceased was identified as Jasim Uddin, 48, a resident of Peshkar Hawla area under Lalmohan Sadar Union in the upazila. He was a night watchman at Lalmohan Bazar.
Local sources said that Jasim Uddin was going to Lalmohan Bazar from the house at night riding on his motorcycle. At that time, his motorcycle collided with a truck standing at the head of Rasulbagh Road in the town at around 3 am after losing its control over the steering, which left Jasim seriously injured.
Other night guards of the market came and rescued him from the scene and took to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor examined Jasim's physical condition and declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Lalmohan PS OC Sirajul Islam confirmed the incident.
NAGESHWARI, KURIGRAM: An elderly teacher was killed after being hit by a truck in Nageshwari Upazila of the district on Saturday evening.
The accident took place at around 7 pm in front of the Upazila Parishad on the Kurigram-Bhurungamari regional highway.
The deceased was identified as Solaiman Ali, 66, son of late Asmat Ali, a resident of Bidhutpara Village under Nageshwari Municipality.
According to locals and the deceased's family members, a speedy truck from Bhurungamari and a pickup van coming from the opposite direction crashed Solaiman in the middle while he was crossing the Kurigram-Bhurungamari regional highway in front of the Upazila Parishad in the evening, which left him critically injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and took him, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Enraged by the incident, locals apprehended the truck and handed over to police. However, the truck driver managed to flee the scene.
Nageshwari PS OC Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
RAJSHAHI: A motorcyclist was killed in a tragic road accident in the city on Saturday morning.
The accident took place in Naodapara area on the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway at around 10:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Md Rabbi, 36, a resident of Kashiadanga area in the city. He was a supervisor for Bkash in Mohanpur Upazila of the district.
Shah Makhdum PS OC Mahbub Alam stated that Rabbi was on his way to Mohanpur from the city when the accident occurred. In an attempt to save a pedestrian woman, he collided with a road divider in front of Islami Bank Medical College Hospital in Naodapara. The impact caused him to fall and sustain critical injuries.
Local residents rushed him to nearby Islami Bank Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead.
OC Mahbub Alam further added that Rabbi's body would be handed over to his family following necessary legal procedures.
